I have a teenager who would like to have an entire wall in her bedroom of broken mirror. She wants to paint bright pink, yellow and orange stripes behind and then apply large pieces of broken mirror to the wall. It is not a huge wall 11 X 8.4. Any good suggestions how to do this and not ruin the wall and so the mirror would not fall and be dangerous? Any helpful hints would be great.

It can be done but it's a bit dangerous. The broken pieces of mirror will have sharp edges and possibly sharp points. The pieces can be attached with mirror mastic that is meant to hold mirror without support. The pieces should not be heavy and must be temporarily supported until the mastic sets.

The problem will be when the teenager moves out and you are stuck with the job of removing the pieces of mirror. You can anticipate some damage to wall and wall repair. Then, a couple coats of primer/sealer to cover the bold paint colors before repainting.

Could you use plywood sections and finish them with the paint and mirror pieces so that removal would be less damaging should she change her mind?

LostinM105, great idea!! Screw 1/4 plywood or even 3/8" sheetrock, paint it, glue the mirror pieces and when it has to come down, reverse the process.

from a glassman's perspective

find a shop that will let you have some broken mirror scraps, this will save you some money and they throw away enough every couple days to do the whole wall. you could pay them to sand the edges so that they're not sharp, that wouldn't be a big deal.
if you're using plywood make sure that you install the mirror with the plywood laying down on the floor or a table and let everything dry before you mount it to the wall. mastic isn't made to keep mirror from sliding down the wall, in fact it will slide off if it's not set.
