What is the best way to repair 4 and 6 inch holes in ceilings?
Would this method work? Why or why not?...
Insert and screw in a piece of wood to cover the hole. Then fill the hole up with several layers of drywall compound (allowing each layer to dry 24 hrs). Sand flush.
Thanks.

Insert a piece of wood longer than the hole and screw it to the drywall on eachside of the hole, then cut a piece of drywall slightly smaller than the hole and screw it to the piece of wood. Then tape and mud as you normally would.

Applying j/c directly to wood is apt to crack sooner or later.
