The head phone jack on my Yamaha receiver RX V630 is not working properly...when you insert the headphone sound intermittenly comes out...you have to fiddle with it until it works it is getting harder and harder to get sound...this happens with all headphones so its the jack...it feels like you have really have to push it in for it to make contact with anything that will give you sound. I have a few questions about it..

1. Can I fix it myself..how complicated would this be..does it require soldering ...

2. If not is it better to buy a new receiver instead of paying to have this fixed. This receiver is about 8 years old at least..we use it for tv sound on our big screen...

If you can do it yourself depends how easy it is for you to get in there, and how in there that part is.

You likely will have to solder, and replace the jack as a whole, it it isn't a broken solder
connection.

You will more than likely have to solder.

Got a broken pair of headphones laying around, or an old plug that fits the jack? Use a file to rough up the plug. Try and turn its entire surface into the texture of sandpaper. Wipe it off, stick it in the jack and give it a few twists. Do this several times. If you have some electronic contact cleaner, spray a bit of it in there before you stick in the plug.

If the jack has accumulated carbon on its contacts the "sandpaper" plug may clean it off. We do this all the time with older gear, only we use a specially-made burnishing plug.
