I just traded furnature with a neighbor and now have a huge 5 piece sectional with 2 reclinors. One of the recliners is broken. The cable came off whereever it is supposed to be, like on the thing that pulls in/pulls out the reclining part. The cable appears to be intact, just not attached to where it needs to be in order to function. If you can give me any advice, I would be grateful.
One of the seats is also sunken in and the springs are missing the part that they hook into. I think I am just going to buy a board and screw it in as the springs look like a royal pain to repair. Do you think this would work?
The sectional was bought at Slumberland about 6-7 years ago and just was not taken very good care of it. I have always wanted a nice sectional and this will be once repaired and cleaned. Thanks in advance.

Are these coil springs? The high-quality sofas have coil springs with 8-way ties. These can be adjusted as needed. Webbing usually supports the coils. There are the drop in coils and the zig zag S-shaped that ar tacked to the frame and are not tied to each other, although some may have clips.
You can remove the couch cushions and open up the couch to examine frame to determine where repairs/reinforcement need to be made. Then, you can install the plywood for additional support. Test drive first before sealing the couch back up. Additional adjustments may need to be made.

Professional cleaning and disinfecting is recommended, especially because it was used. If you get another 5-6 years out of the sofa your investment will be worth it.

I managed to get the seat repaired by taking out the coils and fastening a board under the seat.
The recliner is another issue. The cable near the handle snapped and lost a little ball thing that hooks into the handle. I tried rigging it with another cable, but no go. Will look at getting a replacement once I get cash again unless someone has another idea.

Congratulations on fixing the sag. One thing about it is that if the recliner does not work, it will look like part of the sectional without anyone noticing. That is, if it is not in the recline position.

Cannot get the footrest to stay in at all. Tempted to pull it in with a bungi cord, but my son would be mad as that is his domain, according to him, lol.
I did a deep cleaning with hot water and a professional carpet cleaner attachments. OMG it was gross! I was able to remove two cushion covers and went to hand wash but with only an inch of water it was brown, I put them in the washer on gentle and they came out perfect. I have cats and the cat hair is starting to accumulate on the tops, oh well. Just the old couch it blended in, now I have dark blue. I LOVE this sectional as it is so comfy. I still say I got the better end of the deal all around.:D
