I am a newby to this forum, but have been following it for quite a while.
My niece has a Craftsman 22 inch mower with a Craftsman Eager 1 4.5 hp engine. She was mowing the other day and she tells me the engine quit just like someone had turned off an ignition key. She replaced the spark plug with no results.
I pulled the plug and grounded it on the block and see no spark when the engine is cranked. Is there a way to check the coil, etc easily?

The engine model is 143.004502
Engine Family YTPXS.1631BA
Disp. 163
DOM 0318 W

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thank You

Hello and welcome Bird Hunter!

You can test the coil by gaining access to the coil and unplug the thin kill wire from it. Check for spark again. If you still have no spark, then the coil is bad.

Thank You Cheese.

I had already disconnected the kill wire and got no spark. Thought there might be a way to easily test the coil by measuring the resistance or some other electronic way.

Is this a Tecumseh engine? I have no parts list or manual for it. So I don't have the part number for the coil.

Thanks again for your help Cheese.
