We are currently demoing our deck and want to replace it with a brick patio. Our problem......how to build brick steps from the back door onto the brick patio. There are no steps underneath the deck, so we will be starting from scratch. Do we construct the patio first and then build the steps on top of the patio, or build the brick steps first and then construct the patio around them? Thanks for any help you can give us.

it will be much easier to build the patio first that way the heighth of the steps will be more likely to be correct, do not have any step with a different height from the rest if at all possible. that promotes tripping.
