Mod. # MAVT634AWW. Washer will not spin. Tranny pulley turns free in both directions. In spin cycle I cannot get tub to turn even trying to spin it by hand. I saw in a parts breakdown that there is a spring loaded brake system. I was going to pull the pulley off & take the bottom part off to get at brake untill I saw the warning sticker that said " 200 lbs. spring loaded pressure". Do I need a special tool to dissasemble, assemble? Are pieces going to fly if I take it apart? The washer is 4 years old. Would that be covered under the 5 year tranny warranty? Thanks for any help. Dave

Is there a hum sound from the motor, indicating it is not out of balance?, - that the lid switch works?, - and the timer is into the spin cycle (that contact of the points inside is being made), for sure? If there is no hum, maybe it is not even ready to spin due to what I listed.

Washer goes into spin cycle. Motor turns tranny & pump. Tub will not turn.

Yes you need a special tool to remove brake. Dose the pulley turn in both directions, Try to turn thee pulley from under the machine. tilt machine back aginest wall. Take front off an watch trany and see if it turns with pulley. Agitator wlll turn the other way
There is a tapered plastic slide under the white plastic cap on the pulley that should have grease on it. You might be able to get some grease in there without taking off the E clip. Don't take E clip off. If I remember right the break releases in spin cycle.

Thanks pugsl. Yes, the pulley turns in both directions on tranny. However, the outer part of tranny that you see with the front off will not turn. I'll try getting some grease in there but I remember seeing quite abit of grease when I pulled the cap off from center of pulley. Almost acts like the brake got hung up & won't release.

Been awhile since I took one apart but been thinking about it and you can remove E clip from brake assy, but and pull plastic pulley off. Watch how it comes apart. If pulley has a couple of washers and needle bearing it is the old style and there is a up dated assy. Don't know if this is the problem much easyer than a trans to check. You can put the grease on the ramps when you get it apart.
How it works is that the pulley turns and lifts the trans off the brake than it spins. can you turn the trans by hand? You might have something between tub and basket. It happens but not very often.
do not take 6 5/16 bolts out from brake that is where the spring is.

Thats the odd thing. Pulley turns by hand fairly easy both ways. If something were stuck between tubs I would think the pulley would only go so far & stop. I'll try taking that clip off & see whats going on. I'm not messing with those bolts. Don't need a spring flying at my head.
