2003 tacoma, 125k miles, has started 'skipping' at 50-60mph unless I take it out of overdrive. Also 'sounds' like oversized truck tires on the highway when decelerating. any thoughts if transy hardware or maybe in computer? I had system flushed, filter changed and fluid level is full

you need to get the pressures checked in the transmission. the skipping sounds like the overdrive or tourqe convertor clutch is turning on an off. could be from low pressure. are there any trouble codes?
i don't have much experience with toyota automatics so basics are where to start.

This may sound dumb, but when was a tune-up last done, plugs & wires especially? Remember having a 5.0L ford pickup in the 90's that did similar, and would have thought the tranny was shot & it turned out to be 2 plugs & wires were breaking down under load, take it out of overdrive, and it ran better. 2 wires & plugs changed, and all was cured. Just FYI.
