Outdoor Power Equipment and Small Engines - Husqvarna SPropel Rear Drive 21" Walk Behind mower

While repairing my own Toro mower I borrowed my brother's Husqvarna. During a normal mowing the unit started to stay in drive after releasing the bail and pushing down on handlebar while making a turn (like a runaway mower).

The mower wheels are also locked up when I try to pull the unit backwards (bails are released and mower off). I removed the shroud and cleaned clippings out around cable, spring, belt, wheels, tranny etc..

If I push down on and hold down the belt guide I can get the wheels to go backwards. When drive cable is neutral (and not holding guide down) the belt seems slack but when I try to move wheels backward the belt tightens and wheels will not turn. Is this a drive cable issue? I sure would appreciate any suggestions.

Model#? Sounds like it could be a cable issue.

When mower or wheels (mower is off) are pulled backwards the drive belt tightens and wheels will not turn (I am not touching the bail). Thank you for your response.

the dogs under the gears are not releasing. Also on this unit you will spin the transmission when you pull it in reverse. Cleaning and lubing the gears and dogs on the transmission shaft should help this problem.

thank you for the information. i already had the wheels off and noticed a lot of rust on the inside portion (closest to mower body) of the pinion gears. i will work on it today after i get done mowing with another unit. your help is much appreciated.
