I have RF noise from a 120 v house circuit from a Toshiba DVD player. This is produces a hum loud enough to make am radio listening very unpleasant anywhere in the house but impossible if I am near this TV/DVD. The noise stops if I either unplug the DVD or disconnect the HDMI cable. The store already traded my DVD player for another one, but the noise is the same. The store mgr tells me I need a surge protector for a min of $100 to fix the prob. I he a truth teller???

Possibly an HDMI fault!?
I would first swap the hdmi cable for a set of component cables (plus audio) to see if the problem persists.

Thanks Fewalt, but I just tried A/V cables that were supplied with the DVD instead of HDMI and the hum starts the instant that the video cable touches the TV.

Is the DVD plugged into the same outlet or plug strip as the TV? It should be. Both sould be grounded to the same point.

The AM radio band is especially susceptible to EM noise, so that tells me something is bleeding into the household AC wiring. The most common cause is a bad ground.

The DVD and TV are plugged directly into the same outlet with no power strip. There is no doubt that the DVD is the source of the noise since it stops the instant that I either unplug it or disconnect the HDMI cable. I substituted my older Sony DVD player and it does not cause any RF noise. What sort of filter do I need to prevent this feedback down the 120 v line???

Regarding grounding, this circuit is grounded the same as all of my other house circuits.
