Ok so thanks GEGuy... I bought the concord 4, x10 transformer, wireless water detector (may buy a second later), keyfob.... my friend bought the concord 4, x10 transformer, keyfob and 3 door window sensors... the micros.. boy are they small....

anyhow.. after some trial and error he got it up and running.. and loves it.... he then bought 7 more door window sensors...

so we have a cub scout outing this weekend (camping) so wont be home.. going to leave adt up for that.. then come monday I am cancelling ADT... and by wednesday I want to start installing the new panel...

although I will most likely do what my friend did... lay everything out on the kitchen table and program the system then install it..

anyhow all he has is 10 door window sensors..

I have 9 door window sensors, 3 smokes, 2 carbon, 1 water detector and 2 glassbreaks

when my friend set his up... he had everything on zone 1 and was trying to figure out why when you open a window even with the system disarmed.... it still went off...

well he figured out that you have to keep certain devices on certain zones.....

so is there a rule of thumb on what to put on what zone?

I can follow what he did for the door window sensors..
and guessing from what he did... put my water detector on zone 1 I think it was (panic mode?) as water = TELL ME NOW

so do you do the same with the smokes, carbon and glassbreaks?

thanks
I want to start filling out my papers... I took the manual in pdf form and broke out the form pages so I can edit them and have a nice and clean typed document :coffee:

Thanks
Jeff

p.s. I also bought the automation unit.... so once I get all this up I will get homeseer working with the alarm.... so it will be nice and I will post a link to that (a guy on Homeseer forums is creating a plugin for us...)

They key to this zone programming (on any panel really), is understanding the sensor/zone groups. If you look at you sensor groups listed towards the back of the manual (there's a chart...2 pages) you'll see you have roughly 30ish different types to pick from. Each sensor needs a zone type. Some will be similiar (like all your entry doors), some will be different (like your keyfobs). The most common zone types are typically as follows: 01-Keyfobs 10-entry doors 13-windows 17-motions 26-smokes 34-carbon monoxide

There are others that deal with environmental (like your water sensors) and one that only chimes...the ones I mentioned above are only guidelines...any zone can technically go anywhere. Just read up on those sensor groups to get a better understanding.
