Hello,
Middle of our house is sinking. We brought several foundation contractors and they all agreed that there is a problem with slab and they all said that we will see cracks once we remove the carpet. The middle of the house is 1-1.5” lower than the edges. We removed the carpet in the basement we found one crack at the corner of the house. This crack is about 4-5’ and makes a triangle with the corner of the house. However there is no crack around the sinking slab. The corner crack is about 12’ away from the center of sinking slab. I should also mention that this sinking seems to be ongoing since the cracks at the corners of the doors are getting longer.
My questions: 1. How can slab sink without breaking? 2. We hired a foundation contractor to raise the slab. When they raise the slab could the slab break?

Concrete will flex, and flex quite a bit it is is post-tensioned, which yours may be.
