I have a JC Penney (MTD) lawn tractor with an 18 hp Briggs and Stratton twin. It only runs with the choke completely closed, and even then poorly. The fuel lines are clear from the tank to the carburetor and I have a new fuel filter. What can cause it to be starved of fuel? Is there a fuel pump? In the tank or by the carburetor?

Help please, my grass is getting long!!

You'll need to remove the top of the carb, clean out the bowl, remove the main jet behind the drain plug and clean it and the are behind it, and spray carb cleaner through all passages in the carb and reassemble.

I have the same mower and it's a work horse. I have the manual and amy have the service manual for it as well in .pdf format. I will have to look and see what I have they are on my work PC. If you want them, sent e your email and I'll send you them tomorrow. Or if any one knows how to attach files then that would be great.
