Hello all,

I'm closing in the carport and making it a dining room.

I have had 6" block put down around the permiter of the room, on top of the existing concrete slab. I am framing my walls on top of the blocks.

Here's the question....

What do I put between the mud sill and the blocks?

Is "sill seal" enough? I've read that sill seal and then a PT mud sill should do but I've been told a metal flashing of some sort might be required.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Tim

Tim, I think it depends on whats required in your area. Most houses I've seen at that stage only have the foam seal.

In termite areas some codes require a galvanized flashing broken on the edge to about 10 degrees. It may be old school, but it keeps them from tunneling past the metal. I have also seen just shingles used for mud sills. I wouldn't do that, but check with your code people for what they expect.
