I have an old dug well, it is stacked stones 18 feet deep with a 6.5' square 8" thick concrete top. In the conc. top 2'x2' hole, it looks like at one time there may had been a conc. lid that fit in there.
The conc. top sits flush with the ground but has a slight pitch away from the hole. I would like to put a well tile on top of it to keep out surface water and bugs and critters. When I moved it there was a piece of plywood over it with a decorative well house on top of it. I replaced it with a sheet of steel, but it not sealed well.
I was wondering what the best process would be to seal between the well tile and the concrete top. I think there may be about a 1 inch gap on the outside edge because of the slight pitch. Should I stuff some conc. in there, or some sorta caulk sealer.
And do you think the conc. top would have any problem holding the well tile 36" dia. and 2' high. Not sure how much one of those weighs, the decorative well house weighs probably over 100 pounds, I can tip it over but I would be hard pressed to be able to pick it up.
