I have a craftsman 42" mower model 917.254860. My old mower deck went kaput so I bought a used one from some guy. Everything hooked up the same except the way the blades engage. My old one had a rod to a lever which activated another rod to a bracket that was mounted on the 2 fromt pulleys. The new one does not have any of that set up. I tried looking on the net and what I did find was a cabling type system. I don't know if that is right for my application, and if it is how is it installed.
I found this on ebay:
CRAFTSMAN DECK ENGAGEMENT CABLE, AYP 175067 & 169676.
Is this what I need?

Sounds like you got a cable activated deck to put on a linkage operated mower, or an electric PTO deck on a manual PTO mower. The two do not interchange. I suppose you could get the lever and all from a cable operated mower and install it to your mower, then get the cable and adapt everything to fit. Otherwise, you've got the wrong deck for your mower.
