Just moved recently, I have a large metal file cabinet with one of those locks in the upper right corner, stick key in and press to lock. I have never used it just left key in there. Moving company locked cabinet, key broke off inside. Anyway can I get this unlocked or do I have to get a locksmith?

If you can see the broken key, you can probably extract it.

The lock is locked by a plunger on the top...about 2" (approx) from cylinder face edge.

You could always drill a small hole in the top of the cabinet (if you dont mind a small amount of destruction)...and depress the plunger to pop open the lock.

Then dismantle and repair.....should have a code on the front and you can get a new key to code.

You can always plug the hole you drilled with lead shot.

thanks I will try it, how close do I drill, how big of a hole? Key is totally broken off, nothing to grab onto. I failed to mention it is just an old file cabinet, I don't care if the lock gets messed up, I never used it anyway. Stupid me to leave that key in it, thought it would be a good idea not to loose it.
thank you

On the top of the cabinet (not the lock - but the metal)....measure about 2' from the edge of the keyhole face, drill a hole say 1/8 or bigger if you want. When you are through, you might be able to see the plunger bolt. Then just press it.
It could happen that when you drill, it will hit the bolt and pop the lock.
