Hi, I picked up a used Sears Craftsman edger that has problems idling. It looks faily old, I'd guess pre 90's. It will only stay running if I hold the choke at 3/4. It looks like a diaphram type carb. All I've done so far is replace the air filter. Any other troubleshooting advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Please post the engine numbers usually found on the engine shroud just above the spark plug so we know what engine you have. Have a good one. Geo

When I get home I'll check. Would this be of any help?

Sounds like you need to clean the carb and install a rebuild kit in it.

It from 1984. I see the Sears site below.

After a carb rebuild, mine won't run hot.
I learned the starting game(full choke, half choke, burp, fart run), but I can't seem to keep it going.
I got some advice that it might be H & L screw adjustment. Any method on setting these(probably H)?
Thanks,

Yes, you may need to set those screws. It's been a long time since I messed with one of those carbs, but I believe the ones on 2 strokes had 2 screws, and the 4 strokers had one mixture screw next to a blank undrilled hole where the second screw would be. I think yours is going to be the 4 stroke with 1 screw on the left side of the carb when viewing it from the air filter end. Not the screw up high at the top of the carb, but just over the diaphragm cover. Screw this one clockwise until it bottoms out (gently), then back it out 1 1/2 to 2 complete turns. This should be close, and you can fine tune from there.

I'm also noticing gas leaking from the choke opening

You must not have installed the rebuild kit I guess?
