Remodeling 45-year-old house. In bedrooms we've finished, we used a creamy slightly off-white satin for doors, base and trim. Planned on using the same trim color throughout house. Painted newly textured ceilings in living room with flat white ceiling paint and then installed a test piece of off-white crown molding and when right next to each other the 2 different whites become very apparent. We tried using the off-white on ceiling in our exercise room and it looks so much darker on ceiling than on doors or trim.

Very confused on what we should do with crown molding color in living room and hallways where we've painted ceiling white.

Usually the crown painted the same as all the other woodwork looks fine. I have dover white [creamy white] trim with white ceilings - not a lot of crown moulding but where I do it, looks fine.

One option would be to paint the ceilings with flat paint tinted to 1/2 of the trim paint formula. That will lighten up the ceiling and prevent the ceiling paint and trim paint from clashing.
