I have a Kenmore dryer model 86574120. Last night it stopped working. Everything seems to work, but the drum will not spin.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can access the drum to see if the belt is off?
I tried to open the back, but behind the panel is a sealed wall and I can not access the drum. Same goes for the bottom.
Thanks,
Marty

You have a easy dryer to take apart UNPLUG DRYER pull LINT SCREEN OUT AND REMOVE 2 SCREWS there. Put a stiff putty knife between top and front panel on a side and pry up do the same thing on other side. Top will pop off clips. remove 2 screws from inside holding front on. lift off front and the drum will drop down take drum out and belt will be there.

Just to answer the posters request, - you should be able to SEE what is with the belt by removing only the panel, since you must have drum in place to rehook UP the belt. At least you'll be able to inspect and also observe how the belt loops around the idler pulley (tensioner) and motor shaft (unless it came off in that area). If your belt has ridges on one side the ridges go against the drum and also against the shaft.
You also need to assess WHY the belt broke. WAS it just old age (cracked/frayed is a good sign)?, or was it because one of the bearings got gummy/bad and caused drag on the belt. Or a combination of the both? Once belt is off (if it isn't already, try to spin motor shaft, idler pulley and drum to see if all can spin with no resistance. The drum is never REAL easy to spin, but you should be able to discern if it is in some sort of drag/bind.
