Hello! I have a Kenmore dryer which stopped working properly last night. The tumbler is not spinning, and it makes an abnormal screeching noise while attempting to operate; however, everything else seems to be functioning properly. I've done some research online, having no prior knowledge of dryer repair, and it would seem that I simply need to replace the belt. If anyone here has any advice or recommendations for my issue, I'd be happy to hear them.

I would say you broke the belt but it usually dose not make noises when belt breaks. here is a breal down of the dryer.

Dryer is very easy to take apart but unplug machine before you start to work on it.
Take 2 screws out from under lint screen. put a stiff putty knife between top and front of cabinet near sides and pry up top. Will pop off clips holding top down. You can see belt it not broken. If belt not wrapped around drum take 2 5/16 screws from inside on sides of front front will lift off and you will find belt on floor of machine.
