Just bought a JD stx38 with out functional brakes. Can anyone give direction on where to get infor on fixing this or provide directly the info to fix. It does not appear to be a linkage problem though there is some binding on the return action of the brake pedal itself. Thanx

Look on the side of the tranny where the brakes are. Is the rod from the brake pedal attatched to the lever on the brake? If so, does the lever move when the brake is depressed? If so, there is a nut at the center of the brake where this lever mounts. Tighten this nut a turn or two and try the brakes. Repeat until you get brakes, or the nut gets more than snug. If it gets tight and you still have no brakes, you'll need to remove the brake and possibly clean and repair the plungers and replace the pads (pucks).

Thanx. I'll give that a shot. On an aside, is the manual published by JD worth buying?
