Doors and Windows - Storm Door Jamb

I recently purchased a 36X81 Storm Door. Problem is Door Jam is 83. I thought I could use the door extender to cover the remainder, but I was wrong. I looked to try to find 83" (or greater?) door, but haven't had much luck.

If I can't find a door (I'm willing to pay an arm, but don't want to include the leg - need it for gas prices), Is there any advice for making the door jam 2 inches shorter? I don't want to build up the bottom. I think that will just cause people to trip. So I was thinking about the top...?

You could order a custom size, but that will normally add about $100 to the price and take several weeks to arrive.

Your measurements seem a bit odd. What kind of door did you get? (brand and model #) How old is your house? Does it have the standard brickmold type trim or something else?

Anyway, if you have access to a table saw, it should be a simple matter of ripping a 2x4 to the correct size and nailing or screwing to the bottom of the existing trim. Paint it to match, then attach your storm door.

It's a Larson Charleston model (forgot to bring brochure with me so I don't have exact model number). I went to Larson website and thought I saw that they sell 36x85, but can't seem to find it.

House is 43 years old. Nothing in house has ever been exaclty standard. Door way is from sunroom out to patio.

Gunguy is correct, a 2x4 is alot cheaper than ordering a custom size storm door. Any installer would look for the easiest way to make the storm fit, keep it simple and you will be fine. the best way to screw something up is to over engineer a solution.
