My $550 honda lawn mower won't start unless I squirt start fluid in the carb. After it starts the first time it starts real easy. How is the auto choke supposed to work on these engines.

Move the choke to the "start" position, then crank up the engine. It should un-choke slowly by itself as it runs.

It has no choke or throttle controls.

Post the model# so I can see what we're dealing with. The ones I know of have a small lever right above the air cleaner that you move to set the choke before starting.

Ok, I see. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting the automatic choke on one of these yet. I see there is a part # 16600-ZOL-840 that is the automatic choke assembly. I think it listed for around $20. I would remove it and have a look. Looks like there are a rew parts that could be dusty and stuck in this mechanism. It looks simple, but I can't tell from the diagram just how it works.
