My 98' Exmark walk behind, 48" belt drive, kawi motor, will power down - 1/2 the normal HP, after 10 minutes of mowing, and will power up again 10 minutes later. Problem exists with or w/o the pto engaged. It also needs starting fluid if it hasn't been used for one week, but then it will restart w/o fluid. Any suggestions as to where to start trouble shooting would be most obliged!

Thanks in advance,

Lance

When it loses power, disconnect one of the plug wires and see which cylinder is dropping out (I'll venture a guess that this is what's happening). If one cylinder is dropping, change the plugs. If still occurring, check for spark with an inline spark tester on the offending cylinder. If no spark, then it probably has a bad coil. If it does have spark, I'd suspect a loose valve seat or something to that effect.

Good advise. I actually did this b4 reading your reponse. Can the coil fail on one cylinder but not the other?

Thanks,

Lance

Nevermind, two coils.
