I primed 2 new interior slab doors. 24 hours later the primer was still soft, sticky and removeable with paint thinner. The doors are hollow core, unprimed masonite surface. Using oil base Sherwin Williams A100 primer.
Does the slick masonite surface need to be sanded before applying the primer?

A-100 oil base primer is only for exterior use. It will be ok for the doors but expect a long drying time. You should have used an enamel undercoater - either latex or oil base. I have used the A-100 latex wood primer on interior trim with good results.
Usually the masonite doesn't need sanding prior to priming. It should always be inspected to make sure it is free of any contamiments.
