Why do instructions that come with CO alarms say you can mount them low? Or they sell alarms that plug directly into the outlet meaning they are ~1.5' off the ground. Carbon monoxide is lighter than air meaning it will rise, so mounting the alarm at the outlet would just mean it goes off after death. Anybody know why these types of alarms exist or why mounting instructions say you can mount these low?

Carbon monoxide is almost the same weight as air, not exactly lighter. Warm air will carry the monoxide to the top. Not all detectors can plug in.

New detectors can be hardwired into your ceiling light typical detectors. Having a detector period is better then not having one at all. A plug in type detector will detect monoxide before it reaches the ceiling.
