Hello,
I am considering changing the windows in my house (30 year old aluminium wndows with storm window inside - what were the previous onwers thinking ?). Anyhow, I was also planning to have the siding and trim around the windows restained as well as having the rotten trim replaced.
I am ready to restain the siding/trim and was considering doing the windows a little bit later (like 3 months later). Having never had windows installed, I am wondering if this makes sense (i.e. will the windows removal/install damage the newly stained/repaired trim?)
Thx,
Yves

Replacement windows fit inside existing casings/frames, so there is usually no need to remove interior or exterior trim. Aluminum windows are usually nailed to the outside sheathing, and requires the removal of trim to remove the old window. I sometimes use the old window frame as a stop for a new replacement window, then the old outside trim is not disturbed. Complete window replacement requires the removal of the old frame and usually all interior and exterior trim. So the amount of work depends on the window you select. But is is usually a good idea to do the trim afterwards.
