Help all,
I have a pretty good running 1989 GMC 2 W/D GMC pick-up. My son drives it and I got in it last week. The problem is, teh transmission (automatic) is slow, very slow to go into reverse. Fluids are all full and lines look in good shape.
WHAT do I need to do from here? Anything I can check myself? Any ideas or help or direction would be very helpful.
Thanks, G:wall:

Good place to start would be a fluid & filter change if it hasn't been done lately.

drop the pan a see if it has any metal particals larger than a pencil lead. if it has any visable metal particals it is going to be a trans overhaul. the fluid and filter change might help for a little while but not for long if that is the case.
