Hello,
Is there a safe (using no chemicals) to destroy weeds that grow in the cracks of our cobble stone patio? I have been weeding every weekend and the weeds keep coming. Please suggest alternative. Thanks.

Vinegar is an organic herbicide. Mix 1 gallon vinegar with 1 cup salt and 1 tablespoon of dishliquid. Note that vinegar will not move through the plant to kill the root. Repeat applications may be necessary.

A systemic herbicide is the only way to end your weeding. The roots grow under the pavers and will continue to seek sunlight and life. While we all prefer to go organic there are safer systemic (enters plant leaves and travels to roots) available at home and garden centers. Ask for the manager and share your concerns, bet you'll be pleasantly surprised. After control has been regained use the organic products for control of seedlings. TrueWench

With persistence, the roots can be eventually killed out. Without leaves, that the vinegar solution will control, there will be no leaves to photosynthesize to provide food to roots. Repeat applications, patience, and determination, will eventually lead to the eradication of weeds between cobble stones. Of course, a systemic herbicide will offer more immediate results. But, organic gardeners do not use chemicals and look for alternative ways for control of weeds and insects in the landscape.
