I bought the most beautiful little mexican heather shrub. It is about a foot and a half tall and was in a 6" pot when i bought it. When I removed it from the original pot, I saw that is was completely root bound, and I can't loosen the roots at all!! What should I do? I want to plant it in a big outdoor pot, but don't want to plant it root bound like it is. I tried soaking it a bit, but it didn't seem to loosen up at all. Help! I want to get this in today. Thank you,
jeannie

If the roots are very tight, cut a few 1/2" incisions from top to bottom on the outside of the root-ball. Space the cuts around the root-ball. Then gently pull the root ball apart.
