I gutted my bathroom and just finished installing a new tub. I had a little bit of difficulty, but it's done.

The problem is, now the tub rocks ever so slightly. Less than 1/16" on the corner. Should I just go ahead and wall around it and hope that stabilizes it a little or would that be a major error?

At both points of the rocking, it still appears to be level...it's just one of those things that drives me crazy and I don't want causing me problems in the future...

I have not yet screwed in the top lip of the tub (which gets covered with backerboard) to the studs. Is that enough, or should I remove the tub and reinstall it?

You should shim the tub to prevent movement. You don't want any movement.

Mark,
Appreciate the input, but that doesn't answer my question entirely. Is it enough to shim the flange at the top that I am supposed to nail into the studs, or do I have to rip the whole tub out in order to shim underneath it?

Also, any ideas why this would have happened? I followed the installation directions of the tub very carefully and it was all level on all the spots and everything was perfect...it wasn't until after I climbed into the tub that this started...

Is floor flat? Is it level? You indicated that tub was level but still rocks. Is there a high place in the floor beneath tub?

Shims are slipped underneath tub to level. Place level on edge of tub to determine if level.

It's rocking so little that it's level whether it's at the "high point" or "low point" of the rocking.

I shimmed behind the flange along the top of the tub and nailed into the studs to see if the easy fix would work. It doesn't rock anymore, but now it just squeaks whenever I get in.

I'm just concerned that over the long run it's going to crack my tiles that I put up around the backsplash.

The floor appeared to be flat and level before I put in the tub. I didn't notice any particular high spot...should I have prepped the floor with a self-leveling cement or something other product prior to the installation?

Prep is key too all installations. A lack of preperation beforehand can cause alot of headaches and possibly waste a lot of money.

Does the instructions for this tub state it needs to be support by a mud bed underneith?

The tub should have been set in a bed of mortar to keep it from flexing and moving. Did you do that?:)
