Hi I would like to know if it's possible to do a direct swap of a hard wired PIR for a hard wired Glass Break? The other day something (presumably the cat) set off our system while we were gone and the monitoring service said the zone was the motion detector in the Family Room...no windows were open, no forced entry, all was normal in the house.

We have wired contacts on all doors and windows and I was thinking that maybe replacing the motion with glass break would be another option given we have a large patio door and someone could kick the glass in and walk in but still not trip the contact on the door. The original theory was if they do this then they'll get picked up by the motion sensor but I don't want to have repeat false alarms.

Can anyone comment on my logic behind this and recommend a quality glass break sensor for a room that is 20 x 20?

Here is what I know we currently have from looking at the manual / panel:

Keypads are ADT Safewatch Pro 3000

The panel circuit board has a chip with Honeywell WA3001-5.4

The circuit board has a sticker on it with D 2842 1899

Wireless unit is the 5800 series

I'd prefer if you think it's possible without reprogramming the PIR zone to just do a direct replacement with a glass break.

Any help / thoughts are much appreciated.

First thought, did ADT install a pet immune motion? Are the dip switches set correctly for animal immunity? Now, remember, even a pet immune motion will detect a pet if there is any furniture for the animal to climb on within 6' of the detector
Second thought, you can swap the hardwired motion for a glass break, but you will want to change the zone type from interior to perimeter and change the zone listing at the central station.

It may be easier to make sure that no furniture is in front of the motion and to verify that the motion is pet-immune and set accordingly.

Thanks for the response. I apologize for not posting the model # of the PIR. Didn't really want to bust out the screw driver and ladder :-)

Anyway, the model is Bosch DS 835i, which according to Bosch has infrared, microwave, lookdown? and pet immunity.

Inside there are no dip switches just a single dial which I'm assuming is for range.

The only thing the cat can jump on in this area is the sofa. The back of the sofa is 3' high and the seating is maybe 18". The sofa is no closer than 8' diagonally from the sensor at it's closest point. There is also an open staircase about 20' away diagonally that he can go up also.

I should also note that it has been quite windy here. The patrol who showed up said he's going to have alot of calls due to wind. This makes sense to me if the windows were open and blowing around curtains, etc. but ours are never open. How sensitive are these motion detectors to wind coming through doors or windows....i.e. the wind itself. The home is pretty air tight, energy star etc but on a really windy day the front door gets push in a bit and some dust collects around the area.

All of these things are what leads me to think a glass break instead of motion might be a better option?
