I'm building a new home, so I have the choice to go either way (Hardwired or Wireless) personally I like the wireless option (like GE Simon XT), can you plz give your expert advise why I shouldn't or should.
What other wireless system that are good and recommended?
One more thing I noticed that Simon XT range is 1000 ft (I think in the open space), does anyone knows what that range would in a concret built home?.
Thx

Wireless is pretty reliable, and the transmitters that GE uses have a pretty good track record.

If you _can_ go with hardwired, it really is the better choice. There's just fewer things to go wrong, and the overall hardware cost will be lower. Remember, each opening needs a transmitter, and they can add up. If it's a fairly small install, then it really will make no practical difference.

For the wireless range, take whatever the manufacturer specs, and figure on 2/3 of that in the real world.

Hardwired by a knockout...

No batteries at each sensor...
Virtually eliminate false alarms...
Cheaper to wire multiple windows....
Hidden window and door sensors....

Overall, wireless is better for a retrofit to an existing house where you don't want to wire through existing walls. Two or three sensor wireless systems are fairly cost effective.

One consideration: Look into monitoring costs carefully. That's the big money long term. I have seen monitoring for $5 a month to $29 per month. In reality, the monitoring is probably the same regardless. I pay $8 and they call within 60 seconds.

Also consider a cell phone back up phone link for monitored systems if highest security is desired. This will cost more over the traditional land line hookup.
