my kenmore electric water heater will at times stop working. it`s not the breaker in the fuse box, it`s the one on the water heater itself, that needs to be reset, My question is why do i have to reset it every couple of days?

Hello

Usually a reset on a electric water heater is a high limit control. If one of the thermostats does not shut off at the proper temp. the hi limit will shut down the system until manually reset. Otherwise your relief valve would blow off, and if that fails, you don't even want to be in the house.

The best way to fix the problem is to replace both the upper thermostat with the hi limit and the lower thermostat.

You can spend the time to test the controls, but I have proven more than once that even if I check out the controls I am back 2 days later because the thermostat that tested ok was really the one causing the problem.

All 3 controls should cost less than $50.00
