hello. A fairly simple question. My mom carves these wonderful clocks. She is having problems with the numbers on the clock faces. She wants to carve them in but it tends to be sometimes difficult to get smooth numbers. I was wondering if there were some stamp type number dies (metal of course to last) that we could get her to make it easier. I am thinking the kind that you could set on the wood, give a little tap and it would impress the numbers into the wood. Does that make sense? she could then varnish or paint to color in the numbers to be seen. Buying the numbers to glue on would get real expensive. We would need them to be about 1/2" to 3/4" tall. Any ideas on where we could find these?
Any help is much appreciated.

there are metal stamps available that will do the job. they may, however, not be large enough. i have a set of 1/4 inch stamps and i think i have seen 3/8. not sure about 1/2 or3/4 inch. you could heat the number stamps and burn the numbers in. that would leave them dark enough to see and stain/finish over that.

i bought my stamps at a store called HARBOR FREIGHT. don't know if you have that store. most of the stuff is made in China, but for what you are doing, it should be sufficient.

hope this helps.
