We want to redo one of our bathrooms without ripping out the 1/2 wall tile, and also the same tile in the bath-shower area (it's all medium blue).
What are the basic steps and also what type of paint should I use? and what pitfalls to avoid? thanks
Tom

Pitfalls=
Paint will wear off the tile or flake off.
It's hard to polish a turd.

IMO it isn't a good idea to paint tile.
There are tile and tub coatings availalble. Prep is very important! The failure rate is high.

thx for reply & wranings
even though this is a full bath, it's rarely used. We have a full bath in Master Bedrm and my kids live w/my ex so my current wife and I are alone in a 2 1/2 bath house.
I think what we'll do is leave the tile alone within the bath-shower area where there's a good mix of white tile anyway. In the other areas, it's 100% med blue so we'll give that a whirl and see what happens.
I'll look to ever so slightly scuff the tile w/minimal grit & then use Oil based primer I assume?

Bud & others... thx for replies again
but why is it such a bad idea in a rarely used bathroom?
Hasn't paint technology come a long way recently and the correct paint should adhere and hold up on tile?
If we do remove the ugly blue tiles that are on the wall... any chance the sheetrock will still be Ok to re-tile or perhaps install wainscoting?

Go by the instructions on the tub/tile painting kit. I don't apply tub/tile coatings because of the failure rate and respect for my reputation.
