3 inch diameter aluminum driveway lamp post has two 3/4 inch holes where an ornamental cross piece used to be. Tried black electrical tape but it peeled right off. What's the best way to patch these holes to keep bugs and water out?

try some bondo and some black paint

Thanks! I used to drive a "bondo-mobile" so I should have thought of that!
