I am doing a complete basement reno - total ripout- waterproofing and putting in new bathroom, bedroom, laundry room and kitchen. I just had two load bearing walls removed and a 19' I-Beam and two 6' I-Beams installed with jack-posts.

My question is- the floor joists from the first floor do not touch the 6' I-Beams at all points. They touch at the start and at the end but not in the middle. Does that mean the floor is not supported in those areas and will eventually drop to the level of the I-Beam? They are now about 1/4" above the I-Beam. Does the I-Beam need to be adjusted?

Thanks in advance

Dave

check and see if the floor is level, if so you will need to shim under the joists to keep from them from sagging. if it is not level you will need to shim to level it out or raise/lower the i beam to fix the problem.

I put in the necessary shims and after a couple of weeks all seems ok. thanks for the advice! On to the plumbing!
