Hello,
I plan to install brick columns to eventually hold a cast aluminum driveway gate. I've been struggling with the specs.
I plan to use cement block filled with concrete on a footing. I plan to extend the mounts for the gate across the concrete block. The columns will measure about 18" square, and about 4' high.
My question is, to prevent the columns from sagging, how large (depth and width) should the footing be? I plan to use #4 rebar, but how high should they extend? I do not know the weight of the gate at this point.
Any hints will be helpful. Thanks.
