I am insulating an attic in a very old house. There is loose insulation up there already. Should I leave that there and add to it, or should I remove it first. Also I am not sure what R rating should go in the attic.

This site should give you some insights on the recommended levels of insulation for your area and it does recommend just insulating over the already existing insulation.
