I bought an inexpensive ceiling fan about a year ago that's moving too slow -- the highest speed is more like low at best! Is this a mechanical issue? - should I oil it or something? -- or could it be an electical issue?

Which way are you controlling the fan ??

Wall switch or Remote control ??

Let us know then we can go from there.

It's on a wall switch.

The box in which the fan came should tell you the RPM and CFM of the fan at each speed settings. Different fans operate differently. Check the specs to decide if this fan is working as designed.

Is the wall switch just like any other ordinary wall switch, like the kind you use to turn on the light in your kitchen?

Are you using the pull chain to control fan speed?

Does it still have three speeds? So if "high" is pretty slow, is medium even slower and low even slower yet?

Did the fan speeds previously work just fine?

If the answers to my five questions above are yes, yes, no, no and yes, then my guess is that you have a blown capacitor. Capacitors can be replaced but since you said the fan is cheap, you may just want to replace the whole fan. Fans are pretty inexpensive these days.

:o :o I am SO embarrassed?" :o :o

I didn't think to pull the stupid chain fer cryin' out loud! I never use it so I just kinda forget it's even there! DUH!! I have a great excuse though -- I am a blonde!! LOL!

I'm not sure who pulled the chain, but I'm sure it wasn't I!! Anyway, at this moment, that thing is whirling around lickety split!!

Thanks for reminding me I have a chain! :)
