why when i plaster interior walls does the plaster crack

is there anything i can do to stop this from happening

If you're speaking of true plaster walls, the best way to permanently repair cracks is to use black plastic screen wire in 6"-8" wide strips like sheetrock tape, and mud it over the crack just as you would regular sheetrock tape. Good Luck!
