Hi there,
I am redoing a half-bath. I painted, and want to put wallpaper up halfway, topped by a chair rail. Then I thought I wanted to do something more decorative so why not use tile for a chair rail?
I found a great tile I liked, comes with mesh back and is 2 1/2 x 10 inches.
My questions are...
1. Do I have to install cement board?
2. Which is better - mastic or thinset? I heard that mastic takes a long time to dry and that I'd have to wait to do the grouting.
Thanks for all your expertise!
Sue

No cement board needed. Drywall is ok here. Make sure theres no peeling loose paint grease, grime etc. Lightly sand the area to be tiled first and wipe off the dust.

Mastic is ok here if its ceramic tile and not a natural stone. For small mosaic tile like this the mastic will dry quickly. Give it a day or two and then grout it.:)

Thanks so much for your tips! Why does it matter if it is ceramic vs natural stone? I've seen that comment before and don't understand it. I appreciate your response!
