My furnace (forced air-gas)is short cycling, but not all of the time. Sometimes it cycles correctly and others it shuts down 15-20 seconds after the blower cycles on. I have determined that it is not thermostat related (I tried 2 different ones). I know that I will have to call a pro on this one, but I don't want to be ignorant of the potential causes. Thanks.

There should be a small adjustable gauge inside your thermostat with numbers like .2, .4, .6, .8 and 0 on it. Try moving it closer to 0. I did this after having the same problem and it seems to have fixed it. Hope it helps.

Set your heat anticipator to the longest cycle. If you have a good volt/ohm meter I would suggest taking a amp reading off the "R",or red lead off the transformer. This will give you a fairly accurate reading of what the heat anticipator should be set on your tstat.Make sure that any air flow from your duct work is not spilling onto the tstat....this will cause short cycling.Check your furnace filters.PDF
