Bricks, Masonry, Asphalt and Concrete - Cutting into a brick wall

My husband is going to "bump out" into our carport and create a walk-in pantry for my kitchen. The exterior wall is brick. He is concerned about cutting the brick so I promised to come here and ask. On another thread I saw reference to a saw or grinder with a diamond blade. I am assuming this would apply to him as well. Does he cut all the way through the brick, or is he...uh...cutting a deep score and then chiseling it out? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

How will the exterior walls of the pantry be finished? Brick? Siding? Other?

a concrete/masonry saw is available to rent(gas powered). cut through the brick(3 1/2 inches). if you do not place a brick lintle under the top cut, the remaining brick may settle/drop and crack. these saws are great, but DANGEROUS. extreme caution is advised.

We will be putting siding on the addition. The opposite wall in the carport AND the ceiling is vinyl siding, so it will not look unusual to do this, even though the adjoining walls to the "bump-out" will be the original brick.
