Had me wondering for a minute, you are talking about a storm door safety chain??? One side has a "U" clip attached to the chain, this goes on the door about 16-18" from the hinge side of the door. The other end goes roughly opposite that point on the top door jamb. The nail goes towards the hinge end of the top jamb and connects the spring to about the middle of the chain. The spring keeps tension on things so the chain does not flop down in your face.

Hello, I know this is an old post, but I thought a couple links to some Larson storm door installations would be of help to someone else looking.
Here is the first link to a Larson storm door installation>> http://www.loweslink.com/pubdocuments/Larson%20Wood%20Core%20Storm%20Doors%20Installation%20Instructions.pdf
And here is another different version of a Larson storm door safety chain installation:
http://www.loweslink.com/pubdocuments/Larson%20Classic%20View%20Storm%20Doors%20Installation%20Instructions.pdf
Both of these will require you to have a PDF reader such as Adobe installed on your computer. It is a free download if you do a google search on it.
Happy screen door hanging!
