Hi:jackjacklee

The question here is what happens if you do nothing? Does the furnace burners shut down if the fan fails to start up? If so, then the most likely cause is a defective fan switch.

If the motor will start up on it's own at times, could it be possible your jumping the gun here?

When the fan motor does appear to fail to start up on it's own, check the blower squirrel cage and see if it is turning very slowly. The motor may be wornout or it needs to have the bearings oiled.

If the motor isn't turning on at all by itself and the burners are turning off <cycling on high limit> it could also be a defective fan motor or relay.

Lots of possibilites and checks to make to determine the exact cause of the problem. Remember to disconnect the electric power to the unit before checking the fan or fan switch, relay, wires, etc.

Good Luck,

Could it be that you are not waiting for the blower to start on it's own? It should not start as soon as the burner comes on...it should kick in when it gets warm enough in the heat chamber.

If this is a defective fan switch...is the fan switch and limit control all in one ? The "old" one piece kind that turns on the fan when the temp is reached and turns it off when the burner shuts down?
