I have simple r.v. water heater that runs on l.p. gas only.
The burner will not light. I have changed out the thermocouple..twice. changed out the pilot assembly also. It has a strong blue pilot flame but as soon as I let up on the button when lighting the pilot, it goes out.
What else is there to keep it from lighting besides the t.couple , the gas valve and the burners? Is there a way to test the gas valve?

Make sure you picked up the exact replacement for your unit. The EXACT replacement.Without a special tool to measure the millivolt output of your thermocouple I would have to say the gas valve is bad. With one exception...if your gas valve incorporates a "SHUNT" devise.,a little control with 2 wires that goes on 1st,then the thermocouple threads onto the top of it.PDF

thanks. I did not know that about the thermocouple.
I thought they were all the same. I installed a generic one,so I will check to make sure I have the right one. No wires on the gas valve to anywhere. Just a robert shaw gas valve like on a reg. water heater.
thanks.

Hi:giveup
Don't give up! haha
Based on all the parts you already replaced, if they are good and installed correctly, you'll need to replace the magneto head.
This part <the mag head> is installed inside the body of the gas valve. It's that part the thermocouple screws into. Hint: It may have a RED cap around it.
Good Luck,
