I have an electric hot water heater. The other evening when you turn on the hot water, it got really hot. To keep it tolerable you have to keep it on the cold setting. Does anyone know what could be the problem? Tank is 3 years old and already had a heating element replaced.

Hello
Sounds like a thermostat is faulty. In my past experience I have found it is best to replace both the upper and lower and hi-limit. They are easy to change and relatively inexpensive.
Should be about $40.00
